Recent stories about 'Red Flag Bills' reminded me of a potential 'red flag' issue. In case you're wondering if this is true, let me share an experience every concealed permit holder in Larimer County had in 2001, when 'shall issue' permits became law (I had #16)...
A local young reporter, whom we knew as long-time family friends and graduated with our oldest daughter - wrote a story about the danger of citizens carrying. She published every name of permit holders. Why? I personally asked, and it was because she felt it was dangerous and neighbors should know who around them could be dangerous to their kids. We had a long conversation, which started with - how many times did you feel in danger, as a kid, at our house? Answer - never. Huh, how was that possible? I also asked who she would feel if something happened between neighbors over her published list - she didn't see any potential issue. It continued, she ultimately stated understanding - but didn't change her position of the importance of reporting all the names.
For our neighborhood, it turned out maybe 1/5th did not have permit In fact, when someone tried to kidnap a kid from the elementary school drop-off, and the SWAT team escorted the bus through the neighborhood, many neighbors were out - locked and loaded.
I haven't found the article, which is interesting, but I did find several 2nd Amendment op-eds I had submitted. Spoiler alert - I have not budged on my positions, and remain consistent. One op-ed, in which I challenge 'Hopkins' refers to the local university police chief. The other is in response to an uninformed anti-gun (surprise) citizen opposed to concealed carry permits. The other is one I found in the 'Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down' column - honoring the heroes of the terrorists attacks on 9/11.
